SCENES-coordinator Selina Roskam received the certificate from Hulda Sólrún Guðmundsdóttir, vice-chair of WOSM Europe
On Tuesday 31 July the Dutch International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde received the SCENES certificate during the international event Roverway 2018. The SCENES certificate is an international mark for sustainability. The Dutch International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde is the second centre in the Netherlands to receive this certificate.
The SCENES certificate (Scout Centre of Excellence for Nature and Environment) is an international certificate for Scout and Guide Centres who are leading in the field of sustainability. SCENES was developed during the 1990s as an initiative of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Nine Scout centres around the world developed environmental management practices and education programmes and became formally recognised as SCENES. The Dutch International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde is the second centre in the Netherlands to receive the certificate. Scout Centre Ada’s Hoeve in Ommen was the first terrain in the Netherlands to receive the the certificate in November 2015.
The certificate was rewarded during Roverway 2018, an international event for Rovers and Rangers between the age of 16 and 22 from all over Europe and beyond. A few international Scouts and Guides were present during the presentation of the certificate. Before the presentation they received a special badge from Selina Roskam, SCENES-coordinator, for their participation in the Go Green Environmental Programme during Roverway 2018.
International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde’s SCENES coordinator Selina Roskam is proud: “International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde hasn’t existed that long yet, but it is one like no other. What we are building here is unique in the the Netherlands. From the start sustainability has been an important pillar within International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde. It has been taken into account from the start. This was rather tricky, as everything was still new and still needed to be thought through, like collecting the waste. International Scout and Guide Centre Zeewolde is a brilliant terrain, which enables Scouts, Guides and others to experience Scouting outdoors. That we’ve received a certificate is awesome and will enable everyone to enjoy the extraordinary nature in the area even more.”
